I’ve been playing games for as long as I could remember but more recently I’ve taken a liking to more cozy games. It used to be that I played whatever game we had available to us on the Wii and my 3DS. But now that I have my own income and have developed my own interests outside of just those select few, I have access to an entire array of games that I never thought would be possible.
To give a bit of background context, the first consoles I had were my 3DS and the family Wii. I then had Minecraft on my first iPod and then my iPad. I only got Minecraft Java back in 2019 when a friend had bought it for me. It was only recently that I had made my Steam account and shortly after got the Switch as a Christmas gift from my parents.
Since creating my Steam account though, I have amassed sixty games and twenty-eight on my Switch. Compared to other libraries, mine is pretty pathetic but considering I only purchase games when they go on sale, I’d say it’s a pretty decent library so far.
That being said, I have over three hundred games on my Steam wishlist and about fifty on my Nintendo e-Shop wishlist. I’m slowly but surely purchasing all of them and will eventually get through all of them. Some day.
I categorized this post based off of how I played these games but most are available on both PC and console!
PC Games
The Sims 4 is definitely a wild card within the context of my list. In that, the game is almost like a sandbox once you get into a world. You’re free to create whatever type of house you want, to creative the narrative you want to tell. Some simmers choose to play extremely violently while others prefer to play more gracefully, and that shows in the houses and sims they create.
I put the Sims on here simply because I believe the game can be cozy if you want it to be. But I also know and appreciate that there’s simmers out there who choose to put their sims through the ringer. My point is, it all depends on how you choose to play the game but it can definitely be a cozy game if you want it to be.
Minecraft is in a similar boat to the Sims, at least in my opinion. Minecraft is a sandbox and can therefore be used to play in a cozy-way if you so choose. The game doesn’t have to be violent if you don’t want it to be, just like the Sims.
With the way I play Minecraft however, I would consider it to be a cozy game as I was never really focused on the combat side of the game and have always taken more of an interest in the farming aspect. I also spend a lot of my time playing Minecraft in creative mode just building whatever my heart desires.
Mods, resource packs, and custom content can also impact the cozy-ness levels in both Minecraft and the Sims. But you can still achieve the desired cozy-ness levels with just the base game – you might just have to get a bit creative with it.
Switch
Animal Crossing is a game that I actually didn’t really like when I first played it however, I had also played without Nintendo Online. And in my opinion, playing this one without Nintendo Online is damn near impossible if you want a themed island. I think it would take someone an incredibly long time to learn all the DIYs from scratch as well and unless you have the time to dedicate to the game, it would take you forever to do so.
Since getting Nintendo Online though, I can appreciate why this game is so popular and has such a dedicated player-base. I’ve found myself reaching for this one a bit more than I would’ve previously. I’m still trying to find my bearings in terms of decorating but I’m sure that comes with practice.
Cozy Grove I haven’t finished yet. I think this game would’ve been perfect for me back during quarantine as I’d be able to keep up with it a bit easier than I would be today. Cozy Grove is different for the sole fact that there’s limited gameplay that syncs to real time. So once you’ve completed the tasks for that day, there won’t really be much else for you to do until tomorrow.
I really like the concept but if you don’t have a lot of time to devote to this game at once, and don’t have the energy to check in each day, you can really lose interest in the game – which is exactly where I’m at in my playthrough. It’s still a very cute game and I highly recommend it even though I haven’t completed it, but just be weary of that if you’re interested in playing Cozy Grove.
Suika Game is one that I play literally all the time. It’s such a good game if you want to multitask while watching a show, or if you’re like me, play a round or two during your classes. It reminds me of App Store games and a lot of the popular ones from the 2010s (such as Temple Run, Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride) where the premise of the game was to see how long you can last.
Those ones of course needed a bit more attention to them than Suika Game does, but if you liked playing those when you were younger then you’d definitely like Suika Game. I currently have fifty hours in this game, I play it a lot while watching streams, videos, movies and shows. I cannot stress enough how great this game is for playing it in the background.
Ooblets is such a cute game, I can’t get enough of it recently. The best way I can describe this game is Pokemon but instead of fighting they partake in dance battles. The ooblets also follow you around and they’re so stinkin cute. Cannot recommend this game enough.
I find Ooblets to be such an easy game to play too since the storyline is easy to follow. A lot of the daily tasks pertain to the main plotline so it’s a bit difficult to forget and I’m sure if I took a bit of a break from this game then I’d be able to remember the plot after playing for a few minutes.
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is so fricken adorable I don’t even know where to start. And this one is a bit different from the others in this list solely because this one is a bit more of a puzzle game compared to the others. Again, I haven’t finished this one just yet but I’m slowly making my way through this cute title.
If you’re a puzzle lover yourself, you’d definitely like this game. So far, the storyline has been easy to follow and I’m having a lot of fun with it.

Stardew Valley was my first ever PC game besides Minecraft, however I play it on both PC and Switch. And incredibly hot take, I actually prefer to play Stardew on the Switch. I haven’t modded my game yet so I personally don’t care if I’m playing vanilla. I would much rather choose to cozy on up in bed with my Switch in hand over sitting at my PC playing the game.
Anyways. It’s my favourite game I’ve played to date. I’ve talked about Stardew before so I won’t go into too many details but it’s an essential for any cozy game lover’s library. I love this game just because it’s so cute and the sprites are fricken adorable.
I have yet to 100% a save but it’s definitely on my to-do list. My favourite thing about Stardew is definitely the monotony of farming and also the amount of machines that are in this game. The cheese press is by far my favourite machine to use and I’m constantly using cheese in the Skull Caves. It also makes for a great gift to any NPC.
I spend a lot more time playing a wider variety of games on my Switch compared to my PC but I just love how I’m able to bring my Switch along with me – it’s more accessible in that regard.
Let me know if your favourite cozy game wasn’t featured and I’ll check it out! My knowledge of cozy games is very limited thus far but I’m working on expanding it.
